a) Outline two neo-Freudian theories.

b) Evaluate the contribution of one of the theories described in(a) to the understanding of human behavior.
Guidelines

  1. Ensure that you answer the questions: unless otherwise stipulated give parted questions the same time allocation. In addition if you are asked to describe and evaluate, equal weight should be given to both. Evaluate implies both the strengths and weaknesses of a theory or study.
  2. Contribution to the understanding human behavior raises many issues. For example, a theory can deepen understanding by … A theory may refine understanding of previous theories by … A theory can propose new understandings and provide new insights into human behavior by …. A theory may widen our understanding by explaining previously neglected aspects of human behavior… Conversely a theory may not contribute a great deal because it is unscientific as it …… A theory may be too vague and general to contribute a great deal because it ….. A theory may be too narrow in its understanding of human behavior because ….. A theory may be too broad because it …. A theory may rest on faulty assumptions about human behavior …
  3. After your introduction, provide a general paragraph on the major themes of psychoanalysis and how the neo-Freudians departed from Freud . This provides a good structure for your essay.
  4. Aim to include some references to culture, ethics, gender and methodology is possible.
