I agree with Todd's observation that curriculum comes first and that it should drive the technology need. I have had success with Moodle entries from students who love the ability to enter a comment and I personally love the ability to let you have all the work collected in one place and being time-dated. I'll be very interested to see how the logistics are worked out next year in the HS. It really seems to add to the experience and also exposes students to a the resources available online. I worry myself about the time investment needed to set up courses to be compatible with a one-to-one approach. I think as an interim step I will get my students to set up a 'blog' using google sites. I have had kids respond to each others' blogs in the past....unfortunately, most of the comments gradually fell to 'cool' or 'no way', rather than a thoughtful reflection. With MS kids the biggest consideration in 1-1 laptop use is there inate tendency to throw their bags and books around without thinking about what is inside or what it might land on combined with the tendency to leave things behind. BUT it would be well worth the effort. the student blogs would be useful for many things.
