Thank you Peter for the great work that you have done here - I only wish that I knew about this site earlier as I am near the end of my course and have found some great ideas from your teaching plans etc. We are taking the first cohort of IB students through at the end of this year and it has been difficult trying to get our hands on resources.

Thanks, Peter for providing a great overview of the possibilities--of which there appears to be an ever-expanding list. I agree with Todd's observation that curriculum comes first and that it should drive the technology need. I have had success with Moodle entries from students who love the ability to enter a comment and I personally love the ability to let you have all the work collected in one place and being time-dated. I'll be very interested to see how the logistics are worked out next year in the HS.

Peter, Voicethreads is one that I find the most exciting. I can think of many possibiliites in both math and science. The other applications also present many possibilities- I look forward to exploring and playing around with these in the coming months.
Thanks,
Karen

I already signed myself for netvibe! What a great resource. I think you are doing a great job with your students using the laptops, Peter. It really seems to add to the experience and also exposes students to a the resources available online. I worry myself about the time investment needed to set up courses to be compatible with a one-to-one approach. I think as an interim step I will get my students to set up a 'blog' using google sites.

1. Which software or web application do you see as most useful in your MS classroom?
The students and I enjoy using moodle, it takes away the paper, makes everything transparent and easy. I do, however, see the limitations and would like to have more 'interactivity' with moodle so may have to change systems - word press maybe.

2. In your opinion, what is the most important factor to consider when using technology to enhance teaching and learning in the MS classroom?
That it does enhance teaching and not just tech for the sake of tech

Thank you, Peter. I have had kids respond to each others' blogs in the past....unfortunately, most of the comments gradually fell to 'cool' or 'no way', rather than a thoughtful reflection. Not the software's fault, to be sure.

While I love technology and its many uses, I would be wary that our students would no longer be exposed to the hands-on experiences/face to face interactions to the extent they are now. There is a balance, I'm sure.

the student blogs would be useful for many things.

With MS kids the biggest consideration in 1-1 laptop use is there inate tendency to throw their bags and books around without thinking about what is inside or what it might land on combined with the tendency to leave things behind. BUT it would be well worth the effort.
